Al Johnson Telemark Race

The 45th Annual Al Johnson Uphill/ Downhill Telemark Race honors the roots of skiing in Crested Butte, and benefits the Crested Butte Avalanche Center. This Colorado costume event is as much fun to watch as it is to participate in. In tribute to a rugged 19th century mailman, competitors dress in costumes and climb 660 vertical feet, then descend 1,200 feet down double-black diamond steeps. There will be prizes for best times, best costumes and best fall. The race can be tag-team or individual, or enjoyed as a spectator with access to the venue by an intermediate run.
