Alpenglow Concert Series: Paa Kow
July 30, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
FREEAlpenglow is the Center for the Art’s free outdoor concert series on Monday evenings during the summer. With Crested Butte Mountain and Paradise Divide as the backdrop, come enjoy the sounds of a variety of music. Bring along your chairs, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages.
A high-energy, afro-fusion cultural immersion, Paa Kow and his Afro-Fusion Orchestra boldly explore the music of the African Diaspora by melding Ghanaian highlife with elements of jazz, funk, and African pop. Growing up in the small village Enyan Denkyra near Cape Coast in Ghana, West Africa, Paa Kow has become widely recognized as one of the most remarkable drumset players to tour in Africa, Europe and America. He believes that music is a spiritual conversation and displays a unique ability to speak to listeners with his drums through songs that are both captivating and danceable with lyrics in a mixture of his native language, Fante Twi, and English. Paa Kow has shared the stage with African luminaries Kojo Antwi and Hugh Masekela, as well as American Greats Victor Wooten and Michael Kang and has played from New Orleans’ Bayou Boogaloo to Jazz Aspen Snowmass. The band is Paa Kow (drum set), Tom Ogunribido (bass), Jonnie Cohen (guitar), Solomon Goldbas (keyboards), Peyton Shuffield (percussion), Zane Cupec (percussion), Joel Michael Timm (trombone), Brad Goode (trumpet), and Daryl Gott (alto sax).
